Current Political Situation in Pakistan

No comments :

The current political situation in Pakistan is very confusing. Parliament is divided into two parts, one supports the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while other group is on the side of Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf's Chairman Imran Khan. All of this started last year after elections on May 11th 2013.
As a result of Elections held on 11th May 2013,  Pakistan Muslim League Noon (PMLN) got the most seats in Parliment but PTI's Chairman Imran Khan said that the elections were unfair. Imran demanded recounting of votes in 4 constituencies. Imran kept chasing the Government for a whole year but Government didn't took any action. In July Imran strictly demanded recounting of votes in 4 constituencies. In that time Dr. Tahir-Ul-Qadri, A Religious Scholar and Founder of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), came to Islamabad from Canada but his flight was diverged towards Lahore. At this PAT protested in Lahore and 11 people were killed by police. Tahir-Ul-Qadri demanded FIR against people responsible for death of 11 people including Prime Minister, Chief Minister Punjab and Federal Minister of Railways but Government resisted against any Lawful action on behalf of 11 murders. As a result of these consequences both Imran Khan and Tahir-Ul-Qadri announced to start Azadi and Inqalab march respectively from Lahore to Islamabad.
A map showing Red Zone, Islamabad
A large number of people moved from Lahore to Islamabad with either Inqalab March or Azadi March and according to reports provided on media more than 30, 000 vehicles passed from Lahore Toll Plaza that day (these also include civilian vehicles). Once the people reached Islamabad they started their protest at almost the border of Red zone (limitation of protestors given by government). After some days of protest former Deputy Election Commissioner of Pakistan gave a statement saying that '' PMLN used Judiciary to win the elections. Iftikhar Chaudry, former Chief Justice, placed returning officers of his own choice'' he further said that '' I was, somehow, also involved in this. And i feel guilty about it now.'' With the passage of time things started getting worse. Dialogue started between protesters and government but no output came, as the protesters demanded the resignation of Prime Minister. Joint Session of Parliament was called to suggest a possible solution of the problem. PM asked Chief of Army Staff to convince protesters and then on the next day said in Parliament that he haven't asked COAS about anything. Which once again turned the tides against Government. After some days Protesters tried to break through the Red Zone and get in front of PM House to protest. In this attempt clashes started between police and protesters. Police started smoke shelling on the protesters. As a result protesters broke the Gates and Grills of Parliament House and burnt the trees to remove the smoke. After that day protesters made another violent mistake which was breaking into the Office of PTV and turning off all the broadcasts of Pakistan Television Channel. This action of protesters was condemned in all of Pakistan. But the Chairman of PTI said that PMLN's Marvi Memon was present in the office of PTV one night before the attack which is suspicious for everyone. Anyways the protest is still going and Government has agreed to almost all of the demands except the demand for Prime Minister's Resignation. This was a quick sketch of what's going on in Pakistan. There are only two solutions left now, when Government have said that PM will not give resignation at any cost. Whether protesters go away with the other demands accepted and leave the demand of PM's Resignation or otherwise a Referendum should be held all over the country and people should be asked whether they want Prime Minister to resign or not.
Well the author's personal opinion is that if Government would have recounted the 4 constituencies then there would be no protests and peace would be prevailed. And it was the most basic mistake Government made. After that Government involved Army, and still PM said that Government haven't asked Army, this caused more confusion. I also condemn the attack of protesters on PTV because whatever it maybe still the protest should be done peacefully.
Another important topic in our politics nowadays is that ''Is the sit-in protest allowed in Law and Constitution?''. The answer to this question is Yes. According to the Article 2 (Objective Resolution) of Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan
''Wherein shall be guaranteed fundamental rights including equality of status, of opportunity and before law, social, economic and political justice, and freedom of thought, expression, belief, faith, worship and association, subject to law and public morality.''
So according to Article 2 of constitution which is considered as a base of Constitution shows that everyone in the country have freedom of expression. But this expression should not be done in violent ways. Only Peaceful protest should be done.
